Best way to safely remove iPad glass?

I keep cracking the digitizer glass when trying to open iPads. It is glued down so heavily.

You need a heat mat (set to 70C) to soften the adhesive safely. Do not use a heat gun, as it creates hot spots. Use playing cards or thin plastic guitar picks, NOT metal pry tools!
