Screen cracked but outer glass is fine?

My kid threw a toy at the TV. The surface feels completely smooth, but the picture underneath looks like a shattered spiderweb.

The outer layer is a flexible polarizing film, but the LCD glass matrix underneath is extremely fragile. The TV is completely totaled, sadly. Panels cost more than a new TV.
