Home button extremely hot to touch

The physical home button is burning hot and the fingerprint scanner stopped working.

The Touch ID sensor has shorted out internally. Because Touch ID is cryptographically paired to the logic board, replacing it will fix the heat, but you will permanently lose fingerprint reading.
