iPad stuck in headphone mode

I unplugged my headphones but the iPad still thinks they are plugged in. No sound comes from speakers.

Look inside the headphone jack with a flashlight. Sometimes a tiny piece of lint or the tip of a broken headphone jack gets stuck in there, triggering the mechanical switch.
