Seeing a strange dot on your screen can be alarming, but it isn't always a sign of a broken monitor. There is a massive difference between a "Stuck" pixel and a "Dead" pixel. A stuck pixel is often just a sub-pixel that has frozen in one color (red, green, or blue) because of a software or firmware glitch. Our Pixel Repair Lab forces these stubborn pixels to cycle rapidly through colors, which can often "wake them up" and restore your display to normal.
If you see a bright, vibrant spot—often red, green, or blue—on an otherwise black background, you likely have a stuck pixel. These are prime candidates for our exercise algorithm. However, if you see a perfectly black dot that doesn't change regardless of the color behind it, that is a dead pixel. Dead pixels are usually a physical fault where the transistor has failed, meaning they cannot be fixed by software and would require a panel replacement.
Why does rapid color flashing work? LCD monitors are made of millions of tiny transistors that turn individual red, green, and blue sub-pixels on and off. Sometimes, a transistor gets "lazy" or misaligned and stays locked in a single state. By running our fullscreen strobe test, you force that transistor to switch states thousands of times per minute. This electrical stimulation is often enough to break the logic lock and get that pixel functioning again.
